The most powerful crate motor is better described.

In late October, Chevrolet launched a new 10-liter crate engine that caught us off guard. In short, it is the most powerful crate engine you can buy, beating Hellephant at a full four horsepower. Hey, every horse stands out from the competition.

Chevrolet lost the name game because its crate motor is called ZZ632/1000, which represents 632 cubic inches of V8 and can produce 1000 (actually 1004) horsepower. However, we haven't seen anything other than an Instagram post showing a pre-production mule installed on an engine dynamometer. Well, except that the Hoonigan staff received another pre-production mule to put in the Z28 Camaro. Fortunately, SEMA mandates that General Motors show us more.

In addition to the display at the exhibition, we can now also visit the above video to tell us more about the engine. In addition to the shameful horsepower figure, the engine produces 876 lb-ft of torque on a 93-octane pump. As you might expect, the block is made of cast iron, which is good news for those who want to push the limit with crazy improvements.

It has a symmetrical port RS-X cylinder head inspired by Pro Stock, electronic fuel injection, forged rotating components and advanced ignition technology. Again, these are more clues, indicating that despite the obscene output, the engine will still be reliable.

The RS-X cylinder head is named after Ron Sperry, who designed the system as a brilliant project after working for Chevrolet for 50 years.

What we like most about this engine is that it is naturally aspirated, which is different from Hellephant or Ford's Godzilla engines. This free-breathing beast produces peak power at 6,600 rpm and a red line at 7,000 rpm. This is pretty good for such a big engine.

The first batch of engines is expected to arrive at Chevrolet Performance dealerships in early 2022, but at the same time, you can see Hoonigan staff starting their Camaro for the first time and then spinning it briefly and gently around the block.
